DC means “Direct Current,” and refers to the way current flows from the source. Direct current is basically a continuous and steady stream of energy. how can I get to the info I've stored on my laptop hard drive if power cord adapter broken?

My HP laptop power cord adapter broke after someone tripped over my cord in the bookstore. The computer was about 6 years old and it would have costed too much to repair the adapter so I bought a new laptop. I had most of the files backed up but there are some pictures and a few other files that I want to get off the old laptop. Is there a way I can hook it in series to my new laptop and access the drives of the old laptop using only the power from the new laptop? Thanks

Just take out the hard drive and put it into an external hard drive enclosure. (2.5 enclosure is what you will need to look for)

You will be able to access all of your data and once you have successfully transferred all of that to your new computer you will have a portable hard drive for whatever storage needs you might have.

When purchasing an enclosure you need to find out if your hard drive is an SATA or an IDE. This is easily determined by physically examining the hard drive. IDE has pins which connect it to the motherboard and power supply. SATA hard drives are flat non-pin connectors.
