Sound Card went out in my Laptop. Would an after market sound card in the ExpressCard Slot work?

Or if the soundcard is out in the laptop will that prevent the speakers from working with any sound card?

First I would go to the Device Manager and make sure the sound card driver is properly installed. If all looks well I would assume that is has gone out. If that is so it would not stop an after market sound card in the express slot.
